Why have TOEIC listening part scores of mine been almost without exception bad...? This time, I consider about this.
Some thinkable reasons are ...
1) I have done almost no or the scarcest particular preparation for listening skills.
2) The difference between nature of visuality of reading and auditory nature of listening. The speed in which I recognize a word in printed alphabet and the speed in which I recognize a word in uttered sound is too far apart.
3) I've far less found auditory material which I find very interesting than I've found things like web articles or books.
About 2), I checked how weak my current dictation ability is. I picked up a text randomly and copy-pasted a paragraph from it to Google Translate and clicked the read-aloud button. I carefully listened to it repeatedly ... And I found that I could not recognize surprisingly many words, all of which were easy ones if in printed words.
About 3), using proper tools, or using Google Translate reading-aloud button as I did this time, I would be able to turn a reading material into a listening material.
The lesson from these findings is that I should do dictation practice. Before grasping the meaning of sentence, I first must be able to identify every words I listened to as clearly as I do in the form of pritnted characters.
