なぜ外国語を勉強するのか、というかなぜ外国語があるのか

As a learner of English I sometimes ask myself: is it meaningful to learn a foreign language?

I've already got my native language (Japanese). Then, what is the point to have another natural language?

Such asking leads to a fundamental asking: why are there many natural languages there on the earth rather than an only one, in the first place?

Conversely, what if there were an only one language on the earth? Then, maybe there might have been an only one society and only one culture on the earth.

This means that by our using many different languages in different parts of the earth, multitude of different societies, different cultures, different civilizations, is being maintained. This may mean multitude of different possibilities for humanity. That's how humanity has been naturally structured so far. There is some structured ecological system within humanity.

Multiplicity of natural languages constitutes our societally natural environment - at least it has been so so far.

We work on natural environments. When working on metal, there is metallurgy. When working on the digital world, we need computer science. When working on money, we must cultivate knowledge of finance. Etc.

So it's unavoidable or necessary that some part of population work on languages as long as it's the naturally emerged condition to make our environment.
